Comments | I didn't have time to visit the paved loop but saw a good variety of species blooming in the area north of the old highway: Western Saxifrage (Saxifraga occidentalis), Salt & Pepper (Lomatium piperi), Columbia Desert Parsley (Lomatium columbianum), Pungent Desert Parsley (Lomatium grayi), Western Buttercup (Ranunculus occidentalis var. occidentalis). Gold Stars (Crocidium multicaule), Yellow Bells (Fritillaria pudica), Desert Shooting Stars (Dodecatheon conjugens), Small-flowered Blue-eyed Mary (Collinsia parviflora), Small-flowered Prairie Star (Lithophragma parviflorum), Rigid Fiddleneck (Amsinckia retrorsa), False Agoseris (Nothocalais troximoides), and Oaks Toothwort (Cardamine pulcherrima). Although they are clearly past their peak, there are still plenty of Grass Widows (Olsynium douglasii) in bloom. There were also several patches of Dutchman's Breeches (Dicentra cucullaria) blooming along the old road just west of (and roughly parallel to) the creek. |
