Wildflower Report for Tom McCall Nature Preserve

Comments	Bloom times appear to be at least a week or two behind "normal" schedule. No showy displays yet upon the upper plateau or at the summit. Nonetheless there are plenty of flowers currently in bloom along the trail, including: Northwest Balsamroot (Balsamorhiza deltoidea), Upland Larkspur (Delphinium nuttallianum), Western Buttercup (Ranunculus occidentalis var. occidentalis), Columbia Desert Parsley (Lomatium columbianum), Pungent Desert Parsley (Lomatium grayi), Serviceberry (Amelanchier alnifolia), Bare-stem Desert Parsley (Lomatium nudicaule), Harsh Paintbrush (Castilleja hispida), Prairie Star (Lithophragma parviflora), Midget Phlox (Phlox gracilis), Northwestern Saxifrage (Saxifraga integrifolia var. integrifolia). Blooming at higher elevations: lots of Gold Stars (Crocidium multicaule) and Glacier Lilies (Erythronium grandiflorum), Ball-head Waterleaf (Hydrophyllum capitatum), Small-flowered Blue-eyed Mary (Collinsia parviflora), Oaks Toothwort (Cardamine nuttallii var. nuttallii), Poet's Shooting Star (Dodecatheon poeticum), and Western Spring Beauty (Claytonia lanceolata). We also saw a few Yellow Bells (Fritillaria pudica) and Grass Widows (Olsynium douglasii) at higher elevations -- those are generally finished by this point in the season.
