| Comments | Along the trail to Tom McCall Point: balsamroot are peaking with blooms varying from buds to perfect to petals falling. Lupines ranged from buds to fully developed perfect blossoms. Only at the very top were flowers still mostly a bit on the young side, just below the peak at the switchback where you first see Mt Hood the balsamroot were at peak blossom. This was the most abundant display and greatest variety of flowers I've ever seen along the trail including: lupines, paintbrush, prairie stars, a few varieties of desert parsley, a few chocolate lilies, buttercups, and scores of smaller flowers I do not know the names of. Balsamroot was even seen in the denser shadier areas of the dense scrub oaks. This weekend and the coming week should be a great time for wildflowers along the trail. |
