| Comments | Beautiful wildflower displays here right now. Arrow-Leaf Balsamroot (Balsamhoriza sagittata), and (to a lesser extent) Lupine are blooming in profusion along the access road and in the area immediately above the gate and parking area. I saw Desert Parsley along most of the walking route, as well as scattered patches of Hood's Phlox (Phlox hoodii) here and there. There were also some Harsh Paintbrush (Castilleja hispida) in just one area, on the slope right below the walking road after the first bend. Also saw some Upland Larkspur (Delphinium nuttallianum) and Giant-Headed Clover (Trifolium macrocephalum).
Further up there is a little less Balsamroot, but I saw lots of Lupine that will be blooming in the next few weeks. My guess is the lower areas are at their peak now, and the upper areas still have a show to put on in the next few weeks. |
