| Comments | With 672 inches of snow this year it will be a late flower season. There is still six feet of snow in many places and drifts to 20 feet! They are guiding snowshoe hikes for visitors which is quite wonderful. But the Pasqueflower (Anemone occidentalis) are beginning to bloom as the snow retreats on open slopes. Also a few Spring Beauty near the Steele Visitors Center (Claytonia sibirica). But the exciting thing about being here when the melting snow is just beginning to expose the soil is the Steers Head (Dicentra uniflora). This is one of our favorites and rarely seen. |
