CommentsCamped at Bates State Park. The 3 miles of hiking trails at the park were full of varied wildflowers. We also took the Howard Meadow road into the town of Greenhorn (highest incorporated town in Oregon: 6,500 ft. elev.). The alternating meadows along the road are magnificent! Many side trips yielded profusion of blooms. Some highlights: calochortus eurycarpus (a mariposa lily endemic to this area); fields of buckwheat family, alium, and yampah (perideridia gairdneri); mimmulus nanus (dwarf money flower) growing in the cracks between rocks in mining area; castilleja chrystantha, glandulifera (Wallowa yellow paintbrush, sticky paintbrush); and many more.
