I was up here last week, and then again today searching for a lost my gps on the trail- if you happen to find it please cal me- 503-236-3570-reward offfered.
In the wooded area on the way up, I saw one phantom orchid, abundant penstemons and a nice Philadelphus lewisii bush, also a good population of that white Spirea. In the lovely meadows near what the previous reporter called "Indian Head" I saw Delphinium, Silene, Clarkia, Gilia capitata, Lewisia columbianum, 2 different Alliums, Lupine, Eriophyllum, Prunella vulgaris, Collinsia, Lilium columbianum.
On the ridgetop I collected salmonberry and a few early huckleberries. Archer Falls is barely a trickle.
I took an old logging road westerly crossing Cable Creek and collected a few handfuls of wild strawberries.
Warning- last year the trail up was improved dramatically by "unsanctioned volunteers". WA DNR responded by officially closing the trail to prevent erosion and protect fragile habitat, and large signs at the bottom of the trail indicate the trail is closed, and someone is apparently attempting to decommision the trail by pulling down and scattering the rockwork on the switchbacks built last year. However, much of the trail is not on state land- but Gifford Pinchot National Forest
