Started at Tombstone Pass went up to Cone Peak meadows and then the loop around Iron Mountain and back to the pass below the highway. We also took the side trail up to the top of Iron Mountain and down. Counted 85 different wildflowers with a great mix of forest and meadow varieties. Forest varieties in abundance were bunchberry, anemones, thimbleberry, strawberry and bead lillies. The lower meadows had lots of knotweed, tall bluebells, pea, sitka valerian, bleeding hearts but the cone flowers were barely open. Upper meadows were masses of color with the larkspur very dominant. Also lots of paintbrush, death camas, mariposa lillies, three penstemons, wolley sunflower, yellow monkey flower, blue and scarlet gilia. Generally the flowers are at their peak with some already fading in the dry meadows but lots of lupines and fireweed just getting started.
