Spring seems to be delayed by the cooler darker Winter we just went through. On the loop trail that goes up the canyon and around rock arch and we did see a few Western Buttercup (Ranunculus occidentalis var. occidentalis) and Oaks Toothwort (Cardamine pulcherrima) in the canyon; then on the slopes above and to the east of the rock arch we saw a few nice instances of: Grass Widows (Olsynium douglasii) among the thousands of mostly still bare stalks, small groups of Gold Stars (Crocidium multicaule) and Yellow Bells (Fritillaria pudica), Smooth Prairie Star (Lithophragma glabra), and a few Salt & Pepper (Lomatium piperi) and stalks of Western Saxifrage (Saxifraga occidentalis) about to bloom.
