I visited Iron Mountain, Cone Peak and South Mountain today. The show has begun. Traveled peak to peak cross-country. Just a few snowdrifts remain on the north slopes. Only a few early blooms on the Iron Mountain trail. Tons of elk sign and smell. Rock gardens on the saddle between Cone Peak and Iron Mountain, as well as some of the lower slopes on South Mountain are spectacularly carpeted with larkspur. Other stuff blooming: phlox, saxifrage, shooting star, lomatium, serviceberry, and paintbrush. Also spotted some tiny <I>Dicentra uniflora</I> (see photo).
