| Comments | I spent Saturday on a field trip visiting serpentine darlingtonia fens in Josephine County. There are still quite a few things blooming at lower elevations, including a number of rare serpentine endemics. A partial trip list includes Calochortus howellii, Hastingsia bracteosa var. bracteosa, Hastingsia alba, Viola primulafolia ssp. occidentalis, Castilleja miniata ssp. elata. Less rare, but equally interesting were Narthecium californicum, Tofieldia glutinosa ssp. occidentalis (in bud), Platanathera sparsiflora, Cypripedium californicum, Rudbeckia californica, Helinium bigelovii and Darlingtonia californica. Most of the fens we visited were off of Eight Dollar Road outside of Selma. We also visited another fen along Whisky Creek (north of Hwy. 199 along Lone Mountain Road). A really fun day! |
