The Northwestern Balsamroot (Balsamorhiza deltoidea) is PROFUSE on the slopes of Chatfield Hill and Marsh Hill! There are many other wildflowers in bloom, including profuse amounts of: Large-flowered Blue-eyed Mary (Collinsia grandiflora) and Small-flowered Blue-eyed Mary (Collinsia parviflora), Smooth Prairie Star (Lithophragma glabra), Miners Lettuce (Claytonia perfoliata), Harsh Paintbrush (Castilleja hispida), Upland Larkspur (Delphinium nuttallianum), Western Buttercup (Ranunculus occidentalis var. occidentalis), Northwestern Saxifrage (Saxifraga integrifolia), Ball-Head Waterleaf (Hydrophyllum capitatum var. thompsonii), Naked Broomrape (Orobanche uniflora), Barestem Desert Parsley (Lomatium nudicaule), Suksdorf`s Desert Parsley (Lomatium suksdorfii), Shooting Stars (Dodecatheon sp.), and Chocolate Lily (Fritillaria affinis) especially as you descend toward the stream.
Also blooming are: Manroot (Marah oreganus); Fringe Pod (Thysanocarpus curvipes); Fiddleneck (Amsinckia sp.); Slender Popcorn Flower (Plagiobothrys tenellus); and False Agoseris (Nothocalais troximoides). Western Groundsel (Senecio integerrimus var. exaltatus) is just starting. |
