Memaloose Hills report 4/20
The Northwestern Balsamroot <I>(Balsamorhiza deltoidea)</I> is PROFUSE on the slopes of Chatfield Hill and Marsh Hill! There are many other wildflowers in bloom, including profuse amounts of: Large-flowered Blue-eyed Mary <I>(Collinsia grandiflora)</I> and Small-flowered Blue-eyed Mary <I>(Collinsia parviflora)</I>, Smooth Prairie Star <I>(Lithophragma glabra)</I>, Miners Lettuce <I>(Claytonia perfoliata)</I>, Harsh Paintbrush <I>(Castilleja hispida)</I>, Upland Larkspur <I>(Delphinium nuttallianum)</I>, Western Buttercup <I>(Ranunculus occidentalis </I>var. <I>occidentalis)</I>, Northwestern Saxifrage <I>(Saxifraga integrifolia)</I>, Ball-Head Waterleaf <I>(Hydrophyllum capitatum </I>var. <I>thompsonii)</I>, Naked Broomrape <I>(Orobanche uniflora)</I>, Barestem Desert Parsley <I>(Lomatium nudicaule)</I>, Suksdorf`s Desert Parsley <I>(Lomatium suksdorfii)</I>, Shooting Stars <I>(Dodecatheon sp.)</I>, and Chocolate Lily <I>(Fritillaria affinis)</I> especially as you descend toward the stream.

Also blooming are: Manroot <I>(Marah oreganus)</I>; Fringe Pod <I>(Thysanocarpus curvipes)</I>; Fiddleneck <I>(Amsinckia sp.)</I>; Slender Popcorn Flower <I>(Plagiobothrys tenellus)</I>; and False Agoseris <I>(Nothocalais troximoides)</I>. Western Groundsel <I>(Senecio integerrimus </I>var. <I>exaltatus)</I> is just starting.
