Comments | Blooming now: Small-flowered Blue-eyed Mary (Collinsia parviflora), Small-flowered Prairie Star (Lithophragma parviflorum), Filaree (Erodium cicutarium), Western Saxifrage (Saxifraga occidentalis), Western Buttercup (Ranunculus occidentalis), Yellow Bells (Fritillaria pudica), Ball-Head Waterleaf (Hydrophyllum capitatum var. thompsonii), Poet's Shooting Stars (Dodecatheon poeticum), Pungent Desert Parsley (Lomatium grayi), and my favorite... Dutchman's Breeches (Dicentra cucullaria) in their customary spot under the oaks to the left of the upper trail.
Common monkey flower (Mimulus guttatus) and clasping henbit (Lamium amplexicaule) are blooming in the rocks next to the creek above the waterfall. Desert Shooting Stars (Dodecatheon conjugens) and Oaks Toothwort (Cardamine pulcherrima) are blooming in the forest above old corral. Rusty Popcorn Flower (Plagiobothrys nothofulvus) blooming beyond the power lines. Some Northwest Balsamroot (Balsamorhiza deltoidea) blooming on the cliffs north of the arch. Grass Widows (Olsynium douglasii) are still hanging on in some spots, but will be gone soon. Common Camas (Camassia quamash) about to bloom everywhere along the paved loop. Upland Larkspur (Delphinium nuttallianum) starting to bloom on hillside next to upper trail (adjacent to creek). Lots of Miner's Lettuce (Claytonia perfoliata) about to bloom next to old corral. Columbia Gorge Lupine (Lupinus latifolius var. thompsonianus), Big-head Clover (Trifolium macrocephalum), and Chocolate Lilies (Fritillaria lanceolata) are not yet blooming in forest near the power lines, but should be within a week or two. |
